India Water Week-2016, 4-8 April 2016, New Delhi

India Water Week-2016 was held from 4 to 8 April 2016 with the theme of ‘Water for All: Striving together’. While the Inaugural and Plenary ceremony of the event took place at Vigyan Bhavan; the rest such as seminars, panel discussions, side events, exhibitions, brainstorming sessions, were held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

India Water Week is a momentous annual event organised by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. The objective of the event is to provide a multi stakeholders’ forum to discuss key strategies for conservation, preservation and optimum use of available water and natural resources. 

Water Talk Film Festival on 6 April 2016 by India Water Partnership

Films and documentaries can play a vital role in awareness raising and can widen the participation of all sectors of the society including youth on water conservation. It is also important to document the success stories related to water conservation in different parts of the country and to share them for replication and motivation. With the given background, India Water Partnership (IWP) in association with CMSR Foundation, WAPCOS Ltd. and ICID organised a one day Water Talk Film Festival - screened films and documentaries highlighting success stories on water conservation, technological innovations and people’s participation, on the 6 April 2016 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The main objective of the festival was to raise awareness on issues related to water in the world with especial focus on India, showcase stories of hope and to develop a platform to exchange ideas and experiences of various stakeholders. 

More than 250 national and senior international delegates at the level of Ministers and Permanent Secretaries to Government of India attended the event. The countries represented at the event were; Israel, Nepal, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Philippines and Sierra Leone. The festival screened fourteen films on waste water management, water conservation, water pollution, climate change and drought by depicting the efforts of the Government, NGOs, urban local bodies, panchayats, individual organisations and individuals.

Seminar on ‘Creating Awareness for Water Conservation among Younger Generation’ on 7 April 2016

Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India organised a seminar on ‘Creating Awareness for Water Conservation among Younger Generation’ during India Water Week-2016 on 7 April 2016 at New Delhi in collaboration with IWP and Israel – an organising partner for India Water Week-2016.

The half-day Seminar was held at Pragati Maidan, Chaired by Mr Uri Schor, Spokesperson, Israel Water Authority. The co-chairs included Mr Amnon Ofen, Director, Naan DanJain Irrigation, Israel and Dr Veena Khanduri, Executive Secretary – cum - Country Coordinator, IWP.
