GWP Eastern Africa (GWPEA) Regional Project Manager for IDMP attended the 1st Africa Drought Conference (ADC) that was held on 15-19 August 2016 in Windhoek, Namibia. The theme of the conference was “Enhancing resilience to drought events on the African Continent”. On the occasion of its 15th Anniversary and the launching of the SDG Water Preparedness Facility Program in Hungary, GWP Hungary invited partners, donors, collaborators and supporters to an Anniversary meeting, which was held on the 20th of November 2017 in Budapest.

Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa ( GWPEA)needs to develop  a resource mobilization strategy and action plan due to the shift in responsibility for resource mobilization from global to regional and countries. More focus to leverage resource has been shifted to country level while the CWPs do not have capacities. GWP’s role needs to be  very visible to  development partners and show  actual investment on the ground.

Two pilot actions are being implemented in Niger, the first in Kankantouti (Torodi) and the second one in both Gardiberi and Koygolo (Dosso). In Kankantouti, a site of one hectare fenced by means of wire mesh, where PROGIS made it possible to produce two market garden wells, put 401 linear meters (ml) of wire fence, 200 ml of The Californian irrigation network, dig 7 distribution basins and develop a nursery for the biological protection of the site.

Mr. COMBARI Diadonné Amidou, the mayor of Matiacoali is very enthusiastic with the material delimitation of the route for the cattle transiting from Niger to Benin. Every year the transhumance creates lots of conflicts between cattle breeders and farmers leading at time loss of life. The Prefect of Matiacoali is more specific on “the issue of conflicts between these two groups is a crucial reality in this area. The tribunal of the department has registered an average number of 18 conflicts between August 18 when I started service here and December 2016. The delimitation of these corridors for the benefit of the population will contribute to reduce drastically the conflicts”.

The International Summit “Water and Climate – Meeting of the Great Rivers of the World”, promoted by the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, will be held in Rome, Italy, from 23-25 October.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) and The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have jointly developed a Strategic Framework for WASH Climate Resilient Development. The publication is a response to growing demands from governments, development partners and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) practitioners.
