Advanced climate resiliency in West and Central Africa

Across West and Central Africa, surface temperatures have increased significantly over the last 50 years. The primary impacts of climate change are mostly felt through water. Climate-related events such as droughts and flooding are already having a significant and diverse impact across the region, exacerbating existing challenges such as rapid population growth, extreme poverty, water shortages, rapid urbanisation and conflict.

CWP Burkina prepares the water and sanitation awards

The water awards is the last initiative of the Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Burkina Faso. The aim of the Water and Sanitation Awards is to enable the identification of relevant actions in the water and sanitation sector, in order to acknowledge and honor the efforts of individuals and legal entities which are either at the base or contributed to the achievement of these actions. The ambition is to give visibility and promote water and sanitation as central to sustainable development in the country.

Transboundary Waters – an Emerging Issue

Professor Adrian Cashman is Senior Lecturer at the University of West Indies and a member of GWP’s Technical Committee. He speaks of the recent Technical Focus Paper “IWRM in Central America: the over-riding challenge of managing transboundary waters” – an issue he says is now emerging globally.

Francophone Youth Water Initiative

After the validation of roadmaps and the signing of different agreements, the month of June was marked by the start of the investigations by young people from Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo. These actions are carried out with the financial support of GIZ for Benin and financial support of GWP / WA for Burkina Faso and Togo.

Burkina, the CWP looking for the IDMP demonstration site

The Country Water Partnership of Burkina is looking for a site for its Integrated Drought Management Project (IDMP) pilot demonstration action. On March 21, 2016, a meeting was held with the authorities and technical services of the municipality of Komki –ipala to discuss the modalities, strategy and project start-up timing. After discussions it was agreed that the CWP should meet the Village Chief and landowners to explain the content and expectations and get their commitment despite the initial introduction that was already done. This meeting was done on March 25 in collaboration with the IDMP project Manager at reginal level.

Update on the Youth and water Programmme

The implementation committee of the youth project in Togo organized a press conference on Tuesday, October 27 to introduce the National White Paper. The event took place in the presence of representatives of the government, development partners, youth organizations and the media. It was an opportunity to initiate other actions, particularly with the Delegation of the European Union in Togo to support the dissemination of the white paper after the COY11.
