Back by popular demand, the Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train began its ‘Season 2’ in September 2021. This series of online engagement sessions follow a ‘train-like’ approach, stopping at various locations around the world and focusing on topics related to transboundary freshwater security. Each new stop explores a different topic from the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security. The Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train continues its journey on 16 November, with a 9th interactive session in the series. The topic for this event is water diplomacy and negotiation in international water law. It is a jointly organized by GWP and Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI)/International Centre for Water Cooperation (ICWC).
The latest Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance online event, ‘Indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters,’ was held on 15 September 2022. More than 80 participants from around the world took part in the interactive session to explore how to better involve indigenous people in the governance of transboundary waters.
On March 29, 2023, the Belt and Road Working Committee of GWP China was established after signing the MoU between GWP China and China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

We asked them about what inspired them as women, to join the fight against climate change in their different scope of work plus their contributions so far to climate adaptation. GWP celebrates 25 years in 2021, and we are introducing the anniversary website gwp25years.org. The launch took place in connection to the GWP Regional Days (31 May-3 June), an annual gathering of GWP’s staff worldwide. The new website is a place to capture the collective celebration of what the network has achieved so far, and to look to the future. It is a place where everyone is invited to share messages and where they can be part of the journey to make good water governance a reality for everyone.
GWP-Med has long experience in implementing corporate water replenishment projects, helping companies like Coca-Cola meet their water replenishment targets through focused interventions. These technical water saving solutions are part of integrated programmes which also engage stakeholders in effective water governance, raise awareness and promote environmental education. Several projects incorporating technical water saving solutions have also been implemented as pilot demonstrations through funding by public donors.
The Sahel region in West Africa is confronted with a rampant terrorism for a decade and continues to bereave nations and families. The inability to cope with the situation has even led to the overthrow of the governments in Mali and Burkina. These two countries are the centre of the terrorist hydra in the Sahel.
At the invitation of ECCAS, a meeting was held between the ECCAS Department of Environment, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development (DERNADR) and GWP-Central Africa at the ECCAS headquarters in Libreville, Gabon in December 2022.
