On Thursday, 14 March, four water ministers from Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe will launch the “Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin (UNDP-GEF Limpopo project) to which the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa is providing technical support. The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) is supporting the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to shape the future of water management across the CARICOM Region. GWP-C is the consulting agency for the Integrating Water, Land and Ecosystems Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (GEF-IWEco) Project; one that is important to develop a comprehensive Regional Action Framework for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
For the last three years (2020-2022), GWP and Cap-Net UNDP, with the support of UNEP and UNDP and under the guidance of UNEP-DHI, have implemented a pilot project to help countries protect and restore freshwater ecosystems, with a focus on increasing awareness of environmental data available, capacity development, and action planning through multi-stakeholder engagement.
In 2017 and 2020, the SDG 6.5.1 Survey Reporting was conducted, and a post-Survey Assessment of the results was carried out in 2021. One of the challenges in IWRM implementation identified through the assessment was the lack of IWRM understanding among various government stakeholders, as well as the private sector.
200+ women and girls in the Center region of Cameroon have been sensitized and trained on good agroforestry practices in a bid to explore agroforestry as a sustainable means to reinforce climate resilience to reduce the effects of climate change on the vulnerable population.
