Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado is Project Cooridinator for Water Pollution Prevention at Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper in Costa Rica. The non-profit organisation has been a GWP Partner since 2013 - their motivation to join the GWP network was a wish to participate in the processes around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). This interview describes the organisation and its partnership with GWP - it is also available in Spanish. 

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) face greater challenges in ensuring water security for all and by all. Although LAC is a water-abundant region, water is not easily and equally available to all citizens and users. Water in the region is often found in rural and natural areas, while the most populated urban areas report water stress levels above 80% for periods ranging from 3 to 12 months per year.

GWP Bhutan or Bhutan Water Partnership was established with the support of multiple of senior officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan. Dr Lam Dorji being the youngest Chair of GWP South Asia served from 2016-2018 at the Regional Water Partnership.

In order to carry out an in-depth consultation with the main stakeholders of Benin on the indicators of the water investment monitoring systems (AIP SCORECARD and WASSMO), for the purpose of validating the data collected under the 2021-2022 review, the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Programme (WACDEP G) implemented by the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP BENIN) in collaboration with the Benin Water Directorate, organised the workshop for the validation of Benin's data in the African Water Investment Scorecard (AIP Scorecard) and the setting up of the national data collection platform for the WASSMO system indicators, at the SOSSA Hotel in Cotonou (Benin).

The CWP Burkina organized on March 1st, 2023 an awareness campaign for the pupils of the rural commune of Komki Ipala on the importance of the three fights in Burkina Faso and the good hygiene practices in order to catalyze the changes of behaviour. Three (03) sensitisation sites including Komki A school, Komki B school and Tintilou C school were selected.

The Global Water Leadership in a Changing Climate programme (GWL) has held multi-stakeholder consultations in seven countries identifying the most critical barriers to climate-resilient water management. Working groups have now been formed to investigate these barriers and develop responses, beginning with a ‘root cause analysis’. Updates from three countries follow.

Sardar Muhammad Tariq, born on 15 May 1939, has over 53 years experience in planning, design, tendering and construction management of water resources and hydropower development projects Asia. He was a former Chairman of the South Asia Technical Advisory Committee (SASTAC) and the Regional Chair of Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) from 2010 to 2012. Time to time he held the position of Regional Council Member of GWP SAS representing Pakistan and currently holds the position of Executive Director/CEO of GWP Pakistan (Pakistan Water Partnership).

The aim of the exercise is to test the checklist in a stakeholder consultation setting and to collect feedback from national stakeholders’ key aspects of Gender mainstreaming in IWRM.

Niger is a Sahelian country, which faces several major challenges. These mutually reinforce each other to aggravate the already precarious socio-economic situation of the country. Thus, we note the persistence of the effects of climate change, the challenges related to the problems of regional insecurity in the Sahel, leading in particular to massive displacements of populations and disturbances in the implementation of sectoral policies.
