Promoting inter-state cooperation with the ratification and implementation of the Conventions on Shared Surface and Groundwater Resources

The Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA) has supported the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) and the Secretariat of the Convention for the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, provided by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), in promoting the process of accession, ratification and implementation of the Conventions on shared surface and groundwater in the UEMOA region.

Mekrou Project 2 Niger looks at an integrated approach for pilot actions

The Project management team of the project organized two workshops in Falmey (Dosso) and Tillaberi from 18 to 21 October, 2022 for the elaboration of the action plan for the integrated management of water resources and other related resources of the pilot sites of the Mekrou Phase 2 Niger Project in the Mekrou sub-basin in Niger.

Benin looking for a 3rd phase in assessing the 2nd phase of the national IWRM action plan (PANGIRE)

Following the workshop to re-launch the PANGIRE Steering Committee held on August 17 and 18 in Cotonou, the Benin Water Directorate, with the technical and financial support of Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) and the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP-Benin) through the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Program (WACDEP-G), launched the work of the workshop of extended consultation of national actors for the assessment of the 2nd phase of the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) of Benin and Proposals of actions for the 3rd phase.

How Can Men and Women Be Better Allies to Women Colleagues in the Water Sector?

Water projects are six times more efficient when women are part of the team, and yet there are still massive gaps in employment of women within the water sector, particularly for jobs that are onsite or that require a strong science background. How can we help women colleagues join and stay in the water sector to ensure that water solutions are the best they can be and to help communities and the environment get the water they need to be resilient? On 22 September, Global Water Partnership, Community of Women in Water and World Bank Equal Aqua organise a virtual event on this topic.

The 8th Africa Water Week (AWW8) and the 6th Africa Conference on Sanitation and Hygiene (AfricaSan6) are being jointly organised this year as a virtual conference on 22-26 November. Joined together as the Africa Water and Sanitation Week (AWSW), the conference is convened by the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) in conjunction with the African Union Commission and organised with other development partners.

New Course on Gender and IWRM - Sign Up Now

A new online course on Gender and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) opens on 15 October. It is available on the Cap-Net virtual campus and has been developed in partnership with GWP and Gender and Water Alliance (GWA). The course aims to improve practitioners’ understanding of the benefits of integrating gender meaningfully in water resources management.
