Mindful of the SDG 6.5.1 reporting deadline of July 31st, GWP-CAf and its five CWPs have been fully engaged with country focal points to ensure that the ongoing monitoring and reporting process is conducted as per the UNEP guidelines.

The main objective of the "Water for Growth and Poverty Reduction in the Mekrou Sub-Basin in Niger - Mekrou Project Phase 2 - NIGER" is to "support green economic growth and poverty reduction in the portions of the Nigerien territory located in the Mekrou River Basin and its area of influence through integrated and concerted water management in developing areas".

Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado is Project Cooridinator for Water Pollution Prevention at Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper in Costa Rica. The non-profit organisation has been a GWP Partner since 2013 - their motivation to join the GWP network was a wish to participate in the processes around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). An online Technical Workshop on Gender Equality (GE) and Sustainable Development in Nexus sectors in Albania took place on 29 June 2021 with the participation of more than 50 representatives from gender related institutions, gender focal points from gender-related institutions, civil society, youth organizations and women empowerment activists and experts from Albania.

In line with the third principle of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) on the role of women and to promote the Gender Transformative Approach in the water and climate sector, the Cameroon Country Water Partnership (GWP-Cmr) organized a gender training for public service planners and civil society organizations from October 25th to 26th 2021 in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Danish Water Forum organises the 15th Annual Water Research Conference, which starts on 2 February, to be held online over several days with the last session scheduled for 18 March.

Bucharest, 4 November 2021 - The Danube Floodplain project which was launched to examine how to reduce flood risk with the restoration of floodplains in the Danube River Basin comes to an end this November. The project partners presented the results of the project at a closing conference which was held online on 3-4 November 2021.

The SDG 6.5.1 monitoring process started in the region where UNEP-DHI through GWP is bringing financial and technical assistance to 7 countries out the 15 ECOWAS member states to facilitate the data collection and reporting process.
