The Togolese Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources (MERF) in collaboration with Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) organised from 05 to 08 July 2022, the workshop for the restitution, consolidation and validation of the results of the work of the first meeting of experts on the updating of the framework law on the environment in Togo in Kpalimé, Togo.
World Water Day is an important milestone to raise the awareness of water security globally. The theme of World Water Day 2021 is valuing water. The value of water is greater than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, food, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment. Without a comprehensive understanding of water’s true, multidimensional value, it will be challenging to safeguard this critical resource for the benefit of people, environment, and economic development.
The Indonesia Water Coalition (IWC) that officially established through the charter signing ceremony on the 29 January 2021 sees World Water Day as an important milestone to achieve water security in Indonesia, which aligns with its vision. Since its establishment in January 2021, the coalition has been focusing on initiating multi-stakeholder collaboration to tackle the growing water challenges jointly. To leverage best practices from each company and organization, we are inviting the coalition’s founding members to share their commitments, achievements, and future-plans to the public via online sharing sessions between 22-31 March 2021. As one of the founding members, Fany Wedahuditama, Regional Coordinator for Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) shared these discussion topic on the 29 March 2021.
As part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded regional initiative, "Lake Chad Management Improvement Support" project, jointly implemented by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the LCBC in collaboration with GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a regional workshop in Douala, Cameroon from July 6th – 9th, 2021 to train national and regional trainers on the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach at the transboundary level within a climate change context.
GWP-WA Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand HOUANYE and the UNEP Director, Susan C. Gardner, signed on October 17, 2022 a Project Cooperation Agreement (PCA).
Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) face greater challenges in ensuring a water security for all and by all. Although LAC is a water-abundant region, water is not easily and equally available to all citizens and users.
The islanders of Oinousses are provided with water saving equipment, to help them save 1.000.000 litres of water over one year, through the "Water is in our Hands" inititiave by GWP-Med and consumer goods company Reckitt, in collaboration with local authorities.
The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Chad and GWP-Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a three-day regional capacity-building workshop for Non-Governmental and Civil Society Organizations, to enable them to sensitize the communities within the Lake Chad Basin area on environmental awareness.
The workshop which brought together representatives of five pre-selected NGOs and CSOs, from the five member states (Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria, Niger, Central African Republic) of the LCBC was held in Douala, Cameroon on June 28th – 30th 2022.
The 1st from the series focused on 'Monitoring ground & infrastructure movements from space' online webinar was held on 27 May 2021. The webinar was organized by GWP-SEA, in collaboration with Viromii and Detektia. Detektia S. L. is a spin-off of the Laboratory of Topography and Geomatics of the Civil Engineering School of the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) and has been created with the aim of applying the DInSAR technique to problems of stability and maintenance of dams and road infrastructure. Detektia is a DInSAR based company that aspires to revolutionize the control and maintenance of large engineering works, helping to create safer, more efficient and more durable infrastructures.
The following address was given by HE Jakaya Kikwete, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Chair: Global Water Partnership Africa Coordination Unit, at the closing ceremony of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal on 25 March 2022. The address followed the formal announcement of the International High-Level Panel on Water Investment for Africa by HE Macky Sall, President of Senegel, at the same event.
