In 2020, Global Water Partnership (GWP) in collaboration with The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the custodian agency, which coordinates reporting on SDG 6.5.1 indicator, together with UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net, operates the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, to support 60 countries in implementing the survey. For the PAN Asia region, the reports have successfully submitted and it is now the time to find out the lesson learned behind the process.
The "WATER IS IN OUR HANDS" initiative, by FINISH and GWP-Med, aims to raise awareness on water saving, by showcasing practical ways to use water more efficiently.
Picked up the theme of provision of clean and safe water for emergency response and remote areas, the third webinar from the series was held on 7 April 2022, and invited GWP-SEA partner’ FONTO DE VIVO as the resource person. The webinar focuses on the regional issue in dealing with natural disasters and the existence of a high number of remote areas, and how the innovative technology from our partner can provide a solution for these situations.
During the 2nd Nexus Consultation meeting for Albania, stakeholders discussed the main outputs under the ADA-funded SEE Nexus Project, as well as the concrete Project proposals being prepared to demonstrate the benefits of interventions that capture synergies across sectors.
On May 06, 2022, the second session of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Project "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin" (VFDM Project) was held in Cotonou, Benin.
CWP Benin and WACDEP-G team held on December 9 and 10, 2021 in Natitingou in Northern Benin, a workshop to encourage local stakeholders in the national part of the Volta Basin to improve practices, attitudes, behaviors, social norms, belief systems and regulations in order to promote gender-transformative investments in water security and climate resilience.
Indonesia Water Coalition was formed with a mission to improve water management in Indonesia. The Founding Members of the Coalition are Yayasan Aliansi Wali Sumber Daya Air Indonesia (Alliance for Water Stewardship Indonesia), PT Coca-Cola Indonesia, Danone Indonesia, Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara (The Nature Conservancy Indonesia), PT L'Oréal Indonesia, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, PT Nestlé Indonesia, dan PT Unilever Indonesia. Following several discussions, the charter was signed through an online ceremony on the 29 January 2021. To show the coalition’s commitment, a number of events successfully held.
In one of its key activities at COP25, GWP announced a new collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other partners, to create plausible water solutions for a climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond".
GWP was actively involved during the first week of the COP 26 climate summit in Glasgow – ensuring that delegates and other participants understand the critical priority of catalysing climate-resilient development, integrated resilience planning, and facilitating access to climate finance for investments in water. This effort has been amplified through the Water and Climate Pavilion in the Blue Zone, offering up to 100 events on water and climate over the course of two weeks.
