UNCCD COP16 is set to be the largest conference in the Convention's history, with high expectations for impactful outcomes, particularly in addressing drought. Held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 2-13 December 2024, this COP will bring together global leaders, experts, and stakeholders to accelerate solutions for land restoration, resilience to drought, and sustainable land management under the theme “Our Land. Our Future.”

Over six communities (approximately 4000+ people) in the Far North Region of Cameroon have been sensitized on the origin of dental fluorosis in a bid to reduce stigmatization of affected persons, especially women and girls.

The Drin basin’s groundwater system is a fascinating, yet still largely unexplored network, indispensable for human well-being.

The Benin WACDEP-G team together with the CWP hold on 7 December 2021 a workshop to validate the report on the development of a shared vision on gender transformative approach in Benin. The event took place in Grand Popo with main partners including the Directorate general of environment and climate (DGEC), the FNEC, the NDA, focal points of various ministries, CSOs in gender promotion and consultants.

The Drin River is a complex transboundary water system and a strategic developmental resource for its riparian states. The Drin Dialogue has been instrumental in establishing transboundary cooperation to foster a basin-wide effort towards sustainable and integrated water resources management. GWP supported the establishment of this collaborative platform and contributed to leveraging 5.5M USD for implementing the Drin Memorandum of Understanding and its Action Plan.

In an ambitious effort to improve climate resilience at community level, GWP teamed up with a broad range of stakeholders to implement a pilot project in a transboundary catchment area. The project showcased the range of activities needed to bring about change: awareness-raising, stakeholder engagement, institutional capacity-building, and integration with government priorities.

Madrid, Spain – At a high-level event on December 7 here at the global climate conference, Global Water Partnership (GWP) will launch a report identifying major opportunities for water management to accelerate climate action and sustainable development. 

The World Bank and Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe are organising an online workshop on 20-21 September to tackle water scarcity and droughts which are amongs the most tangible and devastating consequences of the climate crisis.
