CLOSED Preparation of a Methodological Approach for the establishment and sustaining of a Regional Dialogue and Community of Practice on Transboundary Water Resources Management Water Resources Management

Water governance remains a key challenge in the Mediterranean. Efforts of countries focus on improving policies making and action planning, institutional settings, law and regulation, enforcement mechanisms, innovative financing, application of cost recovery and polluter pays principle, etc. To achieve sustainable models of development, water must be mainstreamed into other sectoral policies such as agriculture, land planning and use, energy, industry, tourism and trade. Political will is key for making these happen. The importance of cross-cutting issues, such as gender, equity, poverty and rights, is increasingly recognized but is still relatively poorly tackled.

At the request of the Sao Tome and Principe CWP, a meeting was organised with the Unicef office in Sao Tome and Principe to share the actions carried out by the Sao Tome and Principe CWP, possible cooperation agreements and protocols and identify projects that could be implemented jointly by the two structures.

A GWP delegation including the Chair, Prof. MAIGA, ES Armand HOUANYE, Technical Committee chair, Dr. BARRY and Network Officer, Julienne ROUX met on 16, 17 and 19 October with several institutions to start or strengthen collaboration. The personalities and institutions met include the Executive Director of the Volta Basin Authority (VBA), IFAD Burkina Faso Office,

Bangladesh Water Partnership (BWP), in collaboration with the Institute of Microfinance (InM), organised a seminar on 15 November on micro finance in climate change adaptation. The aim was to identify bankable projects and overcome challenges at village level in implementing climate resilience projects.

From 27 to 31 August, Mandé Hôtel hosted the workshop to reorient the Joint Programme of Support for Integrated Water Resources Management (PCA-GIRE) under the chairmanship of the Technical Advisor of the Ministry of Energy and Water Mr. Navon Cissé,

The International Land Coalition (ILC), Global Water Partnership (GWP) and International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has brought together land and water professionals, researchers and policy makers to reflect on the linkages between water and land in the emerging geopolitics of food, and to discuss cases from global, regional, basin, national or local levels, where these linkages were successfully addressed in legal frameworks, policy, and/or practice. The workshop is being held in Pretoria from 15 – 16 June 2015.

 

From 19 to 20 March 2015, the Country Water Partnership of Benin organized a national workshop on the ownership of the guidelines for the development of large hydraulic infrastructures in West Africa.
This workshop follows the regional one held on 17 and 18 November 2014 in Lomé, Togo. About thirty stakeholders involved in the process of conducting water works namely the public structures, NGOs, consumers, municipalities, research institutions, etc. took part in the meeting.

The 7^th World Water Forum was held from April 12 to 17, 2015 in South Korea. This event, which is now included in to the global sustainable development agenda has brought together thousands of participants from all continents of the world. Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) was represented by the WACDEP program Manager Mahamoudou TIEMTORE and Mrs. Felicite CHABI-GONNI Epse VODOUNHESSI IDMP Project Officer.
