Sao Tomé CWP and Unicef are considering a possible collaboration

At the request of the Sao Tome and Principe CWP, a meeting was organised with the Unicef office in Sao Tome and Principe to share the actions carried out by the Sao Tome and Principe CWP, possible cooperation agreements and protocols and identify projects that could be implemented jointly by the two structures.

The meeting was attended by Valdemira Tavares, Chair of the Sao Tome CWP, Carlos Gomes, Executive Secretary of the Sao Tome CWP, Maria Vittoria Ballotta, Representative of UNICEF and Luís Manuel Bonfim, Health Specialist.

The Chair of the Sao Tomé CWP listed ongoing and planned actions and cooperation protocols signed with other institutions, focusing on the agreement signed with the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRNE). She also referred to the projects under implementation, in particular the project "Water Supply, Infrastructure and Public Awareness in São Tomé and Príncipe" (MAAIS) and the "Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP). The Representative of UNICEF expressed satisfaction that she had been able to learn more about the Sao Tome CWP. She then explained that currently, UNICEF has dedicated its activities to sanitation because according to the indicators, more than 54% of the population defecates in the open air while 90% of the population drinks water with a certain quality.

Speaking of the possible cooperation agreement between the two structures, the UNICEF representative asked the Sao Tomé CWP to send its statutory documents so that they could be registered in its partner database. This registration will allow UNICEF to invite the Sao Tome NAP to participate in a meeting to be held at the end of 2018 with its implementing partners, to assess the duration of the actions carried out in 2018 and the planning for 2019 and to see an opportunity for the Sao Tome CWP to participate in the implementation of some upcoming activities.
