The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) is breaking new ground with the development of a comprehensive “Caribbean Regional Framework for Investment in Water Security and Climate Resilient Development.”

GWP Bulgaria organized the third National Consultation Dialogue on Drought during the World Water Day celebrations on 22 March 2016 in Sofia.

The paper provides an overview on the global groundwater economy and assesses the opportunities it offers for irrigated agriculture, as well as the risks it poses for depleting and degrading aquifer systems. The paper also reviews and evaluates various groundwater governance models. This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.

In a quest to leverage funding for projects in the water sector, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate (MEWC) in collaboration with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) hosted a Water Resources and Infrastructure Investment Conference at Rainbow Towers in Harare from the 24^th to the 26^th of June 2015. The conference attracted more than 400 delegates and was officially opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Honourable E.D Mnangagwa and was also graced by the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation for the Republic of South Africa, the Honourable Pamela Tshwete and Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, the Honourable Saviour Kasukuwere.

GWP is organising a Pan Asia learning webinar on Tuesday 18 June, at 8:30 AM Stockholm time (11:30 Tashkent / 12:00 Colombo / 13:30 Jakarta). The topic is: "Water-related adaptation planning and project preparation in countries across Asia: Korea Adaptation Week & the NAP Water Supplement".

The pilot project of CWP Benin aiming at the sustainable management of the head of the Mékrou river basin and climate change started with the organization of the contest of songs of sensitization by the traditional orchestras on 21 December 2016 in Yakabissi-center.

Building up from previous awareness raising activities organized in the framework of the youth initiative run by the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med) in Tunisia aimed at making the youth’s voice heard in water resources management and climate change adaptation, and putting more emphasis on the potential of interactive games for awareness raising among youth audiences, a two-day training was organized on Aqua Republica Serious Game by the NGO “Recherche en Action” (REACT), in collaboration with the NGO “Tunisian Education and Resource Network” (TEARN).

A large percentage of the region’s water resources is shared between countries. Sustainable management of transboundary water resources through integrated approaches, presents a unique opportunity towards avoiding conflicts and can assist advancing cooperation towards shared benefits. Tackling transboundary water pollution is a key area for improvement. Particularly in the north of the region, hydropower production in transboundary basins remains challenging towards securing ecosystem’s integrity. Food security is more in the focus in the southern Mediterranean. Successful cooperation cases in the EU and the Balkans (e.g. Danube, Rhine, Sava, Drin) may inform and inspire transboundary synergies throughout the region.
