From 25 to 26 August 2018, the global meeting of the Advisory Committee and the Management Committee of the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) took place at the GWP offices in Stockholm.
“Water resources management is a learning process”, said GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr while on a visit to South America. She spent 26-29 March meeting with representatives of the key water agencies of Argentina and Chile. Both countries are Sponsoring Partners of GWP, and Weber-Fahr’s visits strengthened a close working relationship with the countries.

Darío Soto-Abril took up his new role as GWP Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on 1 March. Facilitated by the Central African Republic Country Water Partnership (CWP-CAR) , Central African Republic is the first country in the region to hold a stakeholder consultation workshop to validate the national monitoring report on indicator 6.5.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Water resources Development and GWP-CAR on July 1st,2020 in Bangui.
GWP promotes youth inclusion in water resources management. One of those ways is through a robust internship programme. Civil Engineer Axel Martinez, 26, from Nicaragua, spent five months with GWP Central America as a Young Professional Development Initiative Intern under GWP’s Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP). He says the experience has helped him to grow professionally.
GWP South Asia attended the Transboundary Rivers of South Asia (TROSA) Annual Learning Forum 2018 held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 24 to 25 July 2018. The theme of the forum was “Partnerships for Inclusive Water Governance in South Asian River Basin Forum”.
The GWP communication officers met in Beijing, China from 13 to 20 October 2018 for their traditional annual training and experience sharing meeting hosted by GWP China.
To effectively and efficiently implement WACDEP-G and support its contribution to the broader AIP agenda, GWP-CAf is recruiting a young professional to provide technical and program management support to the regional secretariat in Yaounde, Cameroon. The Young Professional will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Executive Secretary, and in close collaboration with the incoming Programme Manager for WACDEP-G. Duties will include international travel and representation.
