The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, with support from Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA), is convening a Regional Workshop on the Regional Water Energy Food (WEF) Nexus Framework and testing the SADC WEF Nexus Investment Project Screening Tool. The workshop is held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 17-18 September 2019.
GWP is co-convenor of a Virtual Workshop on legal frameworks for transboundary water cooperation, held on 28-29 July. The UNECE-led event is tailored to support the preparation of a checklist to assist countries and/or other relevant stakeholders in the design and drafting of agreements.
Dr. Monika Weber-Fahr, GWP’s new Executive Secretary has visited West Africa in the last week of June. She had a stay in Dakar, Senegal to take part in the World Water Forum’s Board of Governors’ meeting, and in the Climate KIC strategy meeting.

The Adaptation Fund has funded for US$ 7.92 million a regional project submitted by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in partnership with the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA). The Project intitled "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning Systems for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin" will contribute to improve the resilience of countries sharing the Volta Basin to flood and drought risks and to ensure sustainable socio-economic development of the riparian populations.
The project for the Assessment of Technological Needs (EBT) was officially launched on June 13, 2019 in Conakry by the Chief of Cabinet of the Ministry of Environment in coordination with the National Directorate of Environment through the Project focal point.
The 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP25, will take place on 2-13 December, in Madrid, Spain. The conference is being held under the presidency of the Chilean government. GWP is an accredited IGO observer and will bring new water insights to the climate agenda.
