Position: Regional Technical Assistant in Water Climate Resilience and Gender Equality
What is so special about water diplomacy? And where does the discussion on women and gender fit in?
Placing women, water and diplomacy in the same sentence, often enough causes reactions that include head-scratching and eyebrow-raising; the link among them is not easily -nor well- understood.
In December 2018, the draft Volta Basin Water Charter was validated by the main stakeholders of the basin at a regional workshop attended by the Togolese Water Sector Authorities, VBA and GEF national focal points from VBA member countries, technical and financial partners.
The African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO) is planning its 7th General Assembly (GA) from July 2-5, 2019 to be organized in Tunis (Tunisia). The General Assembly is an important occasion for exchange on ANBO's institutional life and provides a unique opportunity for members to evaluate progress made with regard to the objectives set for the network and identify possibilities for improvement.
GWP is collaborating with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat and other partners to create a vision and plausible water solutions of a desirable climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The new initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond". The initiative is part of the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme’s Resilience Frontiers. The UNFCCC is convening a Resilience Lab for the duration of COP25. GWP launched its new Strategy, "Mobilising for a Water Secure World", at a panel discussion on “Re-orienting the water education to address the water related challenges” held on 25 September, during the 6th India Water Week - 2019.
