The Chair of GWP WAf, Pr. Abel AFOUDA had a working visit at the Secretariat from October 19 to 24, 2015. During his stay on Ouagadougou, the Chair met with the staff to have an update on the implementation of various activities and give his orientations for finalizing pending issues.

He was presented the templates for the monitoring and drafting of the work plans, the draft progress reports of the CORE and the three projects bein implemented (WACDEP, IDMP and Mekrou), the guidelines for elaborating the budgets lines for 2016. On all these Prof. AFOUDA gave some orientations. The decision was also taken to convene the virtual meeting of the Steering Committee to appreciate the various documents and give orientations to the Secretariat. This meeting will be done early in November 2015.

 

On August 30, 2017, GWP China and WRI jointly organized side event of ‘Circular Economy Cities: Transforming China and India's Urban Wastewater’ during the 2017 World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden.

In a long-anticipated event, the UN’s High Level Political Forum (HLPF) met in New York in July, to review progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including, for the first time, the one dedicated to water, SDG 6. A GWP delegation was present, communicating key messages from its global network of 3,000-plus partners.

The Country Water Partnership of Benin (CWP Benin) held a two- day partners’ meeting to review statutory texts and renew its organs. The event took place on 14 and 15 December 2017 in Cotonou.

Strong connection between people and nature- crucial for joint management of river Drin Basin

New challenges related to water have strongly emerged in the Mediterranean like those linked with increased migration flows due to conflict, social unrest and degradation of natural resources and well as changing consumption patterns. Linked with these, employment challenges, particularly for the younger generation and women, remain central and in need of long term approaches and substantial action.

2016 marks 20 years since Global Water Partnership began its commitment to help governments take a cross-sectoral approach to water resources management.

For transboundary water collaboration of the Lancang-Mekong River Basin countries, GWP China Region and GWP Southeast Region, with the GWPO support, have set up a partnership with the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center (LMWRCC). It has an initiative harvest in early December 2017.

On December 22, 2016, Mr. Wei Shanzhong, the Commissioner of the Yangtze River Commission, Mr. Jia Hujun, Vice Commissioner, Mr. Jin Xingping, Chief Engineer and other leaders of the Commission paid a visit to Mdm. Cai Qihua, Chair of GWP China.
