In March 2019, GWPEA continued with national consultation workshops with key stakeholders who will be involved in the implementation of the project titled “Strengthening Drought Resilience of Small Holder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD region”- DRESS EA.
The Burkina Faso youth group organizing the “Water Star” competition have received many entries in the three categories i.e. poem/slam, drawing and photography.
GWP Nigeria held a meeting between the Country Nexus team and the ECOWAS Department for Agriculture, Water and Environment on the 11/9/2017 with the WEFE regional coordinator, Dr. Fabien Hountondji in attendance. The meeting was attended with Dr. Johnson Boanuh - Director, Environment representing the Commissioner who was unavailable.
After a meeting held with the new Technical Committee (TC) chair in November in Ouagadougou, a larger meeting with the Chair, all Technical Committee members and the staff of the Executive Secretariat was organized in Bamako on 13 to 15 December 2017. The meeting served as a platform for GWP-WA TC members to engage with the Chair and Executive Secretariat on how to work together to advance GWP work at the regional level and in countries in West Africa.
At the Korea Global Adaptation Week on 8-12 April in Songdo, Republic of Korea, GWP launched the publication, “Addressing Water in National Adaptation Plans - Water Supplement to the UNFCCC NAP Technical Guidelines", and explored new and on-going collaboration with key stakeholders.
Shaneica Lester and Dr. Kevon Rhiney are the authors of a recently published scholarly paper entitled “Going beyond basic access to improved water sources: Towards deriving a water accessibility index.”
In December 2018, GWP China regional royal partner governments—Pearl River Water Resources Commission (Pearl River Commission) & Taihu Basin Authority of Ministry of Water Resources of China (Taihu Authority)—invited youth associations, local communities, NGOs, media and schools to the thematic campaign “Mina Guli on 100 Marathons” in Guangdong Province and Shanghai municipal respectively.
Each year on March 8th, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) joins the world in commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD); a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
"Millions of lives could be at risk if we don’t take the water crisis and global warming more seriously" was among the key closing messages of the 2019 World Water Week (25-30 August, Stockholm), organised by SIWI. Many of the Week’s 250+ sessions showcased water-related solutions to global challenges such as climate change and food scarcity. More than 4000 participants from 138 countries called upon governments, institutions and stakeholders including the private sector, to improve water management and practically implement available solutions to critical water challenges.
