GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr spoke at the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO’s) Commission for Hydrology Technical Conference “Future Hydrological Priorities and Arrangements” on 11 February in Geneva, Switzerland. She delivered a key message on the need for organising so that stakeholders can easily engage with the WMO: “From the perspective of our partners in over 180 countries, GWP is keen to see WMO continue to build its offer to be an easily accessible, reliable and credible entry-point to the world of data and knowledge on the climate/water interface.”

On 15 February 2019, Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) and the International Association Of Water Supply Companies In The Danube River Catchment Area (IAWD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The SADC WEF Nexus Dialogue Project is a strategic fit in the implementation of SADC's Regional water, energy, food policies, strategies and action plans. It will also contribute in implementing SADC's Roadmap and Strategy for Industrialisation. The project is expected to promote better interaction and synergies between the water, food, and energy sectors in order to unlock and optimize development potential of the region for economic growth and transformation.
Livelihood strategies and food security for the poor often depend directly on functioning ecosystems and the diversity of goods and ecological services they provide. Increasing population, climate variability and change with its long-term implications for social, economic and ecological systems is an inevitable and urgent challenge.
