Linking Forest Conservation and Water Management in San Juan Olintepeque, Guatemala (#489)

San Juan Olintepeque is a rural municipality located in the Department of Quetzaltenango in the Western Highlands of Guatemala.  44% of its territory is covered by an oak-pine forest (136.15 km2), which is managed by the municipality’s Forest Office. The water supply in the municipality is mainly through mechanical wells. Deforestation has impacts not only on energy availability but on water availability and the hydrological cycle.

Mali celebrates in an alarming context

The official ceremony was chaired by Mr. Drissa Samaké, technical advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Water. This year, Mali is celebrating the event in a particularly alarming context. According to the Deputy Director General of Hydraulics, Mr. Djorou Bocoum, water stress has never been so present in Mali since 1984. GWP Celebrates World Water Day 2017

March 22 marks World Water Day 2017. This year’s theme is wastewater. Fighting drought, the GWP-WA shares its experience

On Friday, August 31, 2018, GWP-WA hosted the consultant mandated by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification who is conducting a literature review on drought management initiatives in Burkina Faso. Professor Michel SEDOGO, recruited as a consultant, has the mission of helping Burkina Faso to develop a National Drought Management Plan.

NBA and GWP-WA sign an MOU

The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed on Wednesday, 21 June 2017 in Niamey a collaboration agreement between The two institutions. The idea of ​​signing such a collaborative framework document has been issued since 2009 but could not be realized.
