Hanoi, 22 March 2019 -- In the Southeast Asia region, prone to many disasters such as cyclones, floods and droughts, many efforts are being made to build capacity, influence policies and develop strategies to better equip member states to prevent and address disaster. Given the need and importance of paying attention to water-related disasters, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), drafted ‘principles on investment and financing for water related disaster risk reduction’, which was launched during the 8th World Water Forum in Brazil. Building on a cooperation between the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the HELP and Japanese government, a session on DRR is organized with the main objective to consult on investment and financing for water related-disaster risk reduction principles. This consultation was organized as part of Viet Nam wAter Cooperation Initiative (VACI) 2019 as this initiative is closely related to the VACI’s objectives, which was designed to share and co-create innovative water solution with emphasis on Vietnam and tropical water issues. GWP West Africa, International Secretariat for Water (ISW), the CWPs of Burkina and Benin and the NGO Eau Vive in Togo are organizing the inception workshop of the youth project known as “Tonfuturtonclimat” focusing on three pilot projects (one in each country, Benin, Burkina Faso and Togo) on climate related activity for youth and gender aspects. The Ouagadougou workshop will gather some youth organizations, officials and the partners of the project to discuss and come out with recommendations on how to better coordinate and implement the project activities.
On June 5, 2018, on the occasion of the World Environment Day, “the Forum on Youth Volunteering & Aids on River Prevention” was organised in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. This city locates within the Pearl River Delta, bordering Hong Kong to the south, spreading over nine municipalities (including Macau). It makes up part of the Pearl Delta River built-up area including 160+ rivers or channels with 447 million inhabitants reaching urbanisation up to 95%.
On 17 September 2018, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) entitled “Multi-party Recommendations on Water Resources Bill (RUU SDA)” was organized by Jejaring AMPL (Water and Sanitation Network) at Akmani Hotel, Jakarta. Water and Sanitation Network was formed on 8 October 2007 in Jakarta to address the issue of low service accessibility, weak coordination and synergy in the water and sanitation sector. Members of the Network comprises actors and observers in the water and sanitation sector in Indonesia. Discussions in the FGD produced inputs and revisions to the articles in the Water Resources Bill (RUU SDA). To follow up on the results of the discussion, a workshop with the same title was held to present the discussion results to responders and participants from the civil society, NGOs, government stakeholders, working partners and mass media. The workshop was held at The Park Lane Hotel on 20 September 2018.
The national workshop on the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes was organized by the Ministry of Water and Forestry on April 15 to discuss the «Opportunities and Prospects for Côte d'Ivoire". The meeting was attended by representatives of the major embassies in Côte d'Ivoire, the Convention Secretariat, the Parliament, Ministries, Technical and Financial Partners, private companies and civil society.
