River Basin Management 2019 is the 10th Conference in a series which marks the growing international interest in the planning, design and management of river basin systems. The event will cover all aspects of Hydrology, Ecology, Environmental Management, Flood Plains and Wetlands. It takes place in Alicante, Spain.
“Water resources management is a learning process”, said GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr while on a visit to South America. She spent 26-29 March meeting with representatives of the key water agencies of Argentina and Chile. Both countries are Sponsoring Partners of GWP, and Weber-Fahr’s visits strengthened a close working relationship with the countries.
Jointly organised by the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), this competition encourages children to take a closer look at their local river, and to reflect on what the environment means to them.
SDGs refer to a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years (2016-2030). GWP China focuses on SDG#6, the Energy Foundation on SDG#7, and WRI on SDG#2, which makes three lead players integrating the goals from a multilateral aspect.
GWP was founded in 1996 to foster integrated water resources management (IWRM), defined as a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
How to deliver water, energy and food for all in a sustainable and equitable way, while preserving the health of natural ecosystems that form the basis of any economic activity? The Nexus approach moves beyond traditional sectoral thinking in order to achieve overall security and sustainability of all resources.
