Sponsored by the Ministry of Water Resources of PRC, GWP, GWP Southeast Asia and GWP China formed an agreeable bridge between governmental authorities on the Lancang-Mekong River Basin. Each country sent officials to the training programme organized by Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center from late November to early December 2017.

On June 26, GWP-Med launched a new partnership with the city of Thessaloniki, Northern Greece, signing an MOU promoting sustainable urban water management. The first demo project to mark this partnership involves the construction of a sustainable, rainfed green wall.

This year, GWP’s annual Network Meeting for Partners has been conducted for the first time in a “Follow-the-Sun” format. The significance of engaging young people in the design and implementation of policies, plans and standards in Disaster Risk Reduction has been recognized by the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. The Youth Forum at the Budapest Water Summit 2016 further showed that young people are unified across disciplines and scales to understand, innovate and adapt to the complex and dynamic nature of the global water system and climate change.
GWP-WA partners met in an Extraordinary Assembly of Partners on 17 October 2018 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso to allow the regional partnership to keep its legal status in the host country, Burkina Faso and to collect the contributions of partners for the ongoing development process of the new GWP 2020-2024 strategy.

Benin's National Assembly adopted the country's national legislation on 18 June 2018 to: (i) combat climate change and its negative effects and consequences and increase the resilience of living communities (ii) support effective response, adaptation and mitigation measures by setting specific targets for sustainable economic and social development, security and energy efficiency, in accordance with the specific provisions of national and international legal instruments on climate change.
