Water Security for Development in an Uncertain Climate

Improving water security is a prerequisite for growth, development and poverty reduction. Yet, most African countries are far from achieving water security, and without it their development prospects are compromised. This policy brief presents options that deliver immediate development benefits while building resilience to longer term climate change. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management. This brief was developed under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

Mr. Armand Houanye from Benin is the new Executive Secretary

He has 17 years of working experience in agricultural water management, IWRM, climate resilience, water governance and integrity. He holds a Master’s degree in Climate Risks Management with a Diploma of Agricultural Engineering in Development and Management of Natural Resources.

WACDEP 2018 implementation initiated

Agreements have been signed with CWPs of Ghana, Mali and Burkina Faso to implement WACDEP 2017-19. Benin is yet to finalize the signature process.

“Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”

On 8 March 2019: International Women’s Day falls on 8 March with this year’s theme “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change” which focuses on innovative ways in which individuals can advance gender equality and the empowerment of women, particularly in the areas of access to public services, social protection systems and sustainable infrastructure. Transformations, integrated approaches and new solutions are necessary particularly for advancing gender equality and empowering women on the journey to achieve the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In other words, “business as usual” will not be sufficient and should put forward innovative approaches that removes structural barriers and ensures no woman and no girl is left behind.

GWP Central Africa on a working visit to Gabon

GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) carried out a working visit to the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) from 29 August to 01 September 2017 in Libreville, Gabon. The main objective of this visit was to strengthen collaboration between the two structures, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding in April 2017.
