At the GWP CEE Regional Council Meeting held on 1-2 October 2016 in Vilnuis, Lithuania, GWP CEE Council elected Prof. Tomasz Okruszko (GWP Poland Chair) the new Chair of GWP CEE for the period 2017-2018.

Mr. COMBARI Diadonné Amidou, the mayor of Matiacoali is very enthusiastic with the material delimitation of the route for the cattle transiting from Niger to Benin. Every year the transhumance creates lots of conflicts between cattle breeders and farmers leading at time loss of life. The Prefect of Matiacoali is more specific on “the issue of conflicts between these two groups is a crucial reality in this area. The tribunal of the department has registered an average number of 18 conflicts between August 18 when I started service here and December 2016. The delimitation of these corridors for the benefit of the population will contribute to reduce drastically the conflicts”.

Rudolph Cleveringa, Executive Secretary, Global Water Partnership (GWP) had an interview with Farozaan magazine during his recent visit to Pakistan in December 2017.

A workshop was organized in Maroua, Cameroon, under the direction of the Regional Delegate of MINEE from 07 to 08 February 2018. The workshop aimed to proceed with the technical validation of the reports of studies on the vulnerability of WASH services, and on stakeholder analysis and assessment of their capacity building needs.

GWPSA will participate in a panel discussion and make a presentation on “Sharing of experiences on successful Water Conservation and Demand Management Programmes in other countries”. The discussion is a part of the sector policy dialogue on Water Conservation and Water Demand Management (WDM) that will be hosted by the Policy Unit under the Department of Water Services, South Africa, and will be held on Wednesday 16^th March, 2016 in Pretoria.

A Regional Workshop for the Validation of the Draft ECOWAS Directive on Shared Water Resources Management in West Africa, held on 2 and 3 May 2017 in Dakar, under the chairmanship of Mr. Diène FAYE, Secretary of State in charge of Hydraulics of Senegal.

On October 11, 2017, Dr. Oyun Sanjaasuren, Chair of GWP, visited GWP China Regional Office. Mdm Qihua CAI, Regional Chair of GWP China, met with Dr. Oyun.

GWP CEE Summer School Water in the sustainable development – current challenges and opportunities will take place on 9-16 July 2017 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. It is organised with the support of UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme, together with partner organisations from the region and under the patronage of UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development and Ecological Awareness, Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia.

Under the Strategic Goal 1 Catalyze Change, the WACDEP Programme of GWP China Region stresses cross-regional cooperation, sector plan optimization, investment on recycling renewable resources, south-south promotion and a good lesson of utilizing the water rights market.

United Nations Water (UN-Water) coordinates the efforts of United Nations entities and international organizations working on water and sanitation issues. The UN Regional Commissions are mandated to provide recommendations from all regions for a more efficient model for regional level coordination of UN-Water activities, in the context of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development and with a focus on SDG6.
