From 15-17^th August, 2016, the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa conveyed Water Demand Management skills to a group of Masters Students undertaking the Water Demand Management Module being offered at the University of Western Cape. By virtue of the University of Western Cape being a WaterNet member, and GWPSA’s close affiliation to WaterNet, the 2 institutions were able to work together to build human capacity in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). 

Right at the heart of Namibia, “the land of the brave”, in the capital Windhoek was the venue for the 7th SADC Multi- stakeholder Water Dialogue held from the 29th to the 30th of September, 2015. Held under the theme, “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialization” the dialogue was attended by 150 delegates from across the region representing the water sector, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), cooperating and development partners, academia, the media, and other relevant stakeholders from non-water entities (energy, agriculture, industrialization). The delegates, of which a good number were youth were brought together to deliberate the role that water will play in driving industrialization in the region.

In the framework of the campaign ÔVI (eau=vie / water=life) in Tunisian primary schools to raise awareness on water scarcity and the importance of water saving among the Tunisian youth, the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med), along the Enivronmental Commission of the District 414 of Lions Clubs International Association, is organising a youth workshop to celebrate World Water Day 2016, on Saturday 19 March, at the Hotel le Sultan, in Hammamet, in the North of Tunisia.

The Senegal Country Water Partnership held its first steering committee meeting on Fevruary 27, 2016 to discuss the financial situation of the CWP and the contribution of its partners, the contribution of the CWP to the 2016 World Water Day in the country, how to finalise the accreditation process as a partner of GWP and the development of the action plan and budget for 2017-2019.

On the global stage, China has remained a low profile as a late comer in regard of technology, economic development, environmental protection, water and other resources security, climate adaptation. Regardless of the latest adverse impact on the promotion of “the Paris Agreement on Climate Change”, China has kept its promise to the Paris Agreement since it signed in late November of 2016, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global warming.

To commemorate GWP’s 20th anniversary, a 2-minute video has been produced explaining – without words – the challenges of the world’s water crises and GWP’s answer: join our network so that all stakeholders can work in partnership to secure water for sustainable development.

WACREP training mannuals and presentation are being used by Country Water Partnerships in tarinings and conferences for advocating better water resource management amongest the targetted populations. These materials can be downloaded for free from our website.   

After a brief and comprehensive analysis of the situation in the area of ​​drought in West Africa, the IDMP continues approaches in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to conduct national reviews of initiatives, current or less than three (3) years plans and strategies in all three countries. 

The Chair, Regional Coordinator, the IDMP project officer and Communications Manager of GWP West Africa took part in to the GWP Regional Days meetings in Stockholm from 8 to 13 May 2016.
