Brazil: Joining the grid; Sustainable energy (#466)

The distribution of many rural communities in Brazil presents a major challenge in terms of providing access to energy. The production and consumption of energy can, however, have serious consequences for the natural environment. The energy sector in Brazil has been engaged in a process of ‘learning from mistakes'. One important lesson learnt is that establishing and maintaining a high-level policy consensus is key in achieving success.

Water in Sustainable Development Summer School

GWP CEE Summer School Water in the sustainable development – current challenges and opportunities will take place on 9-16 July 2017 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. It is organised with the support of UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme, together with partner organisations from the region and under the patronage of UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development and Ecological Awareness, Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia.

Regional WACDEP 2014-2016

The GWP China WACDEP aims to integrate water security and climate resilience in development planning processes, build climate resilience and support provinces to adapt to a new climate regime through increased investments in water security. By building climate resilience, the initiative will contribute to national social-economic development, coordinate transboundary water cooperation of different provinces, and demonstrate pilot project in delta areas and support safe investments in water and economic development, and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

IWRM Capacity Development

GWP supports mandated institutions in designing and implementing water-related policies, legislation, action plans, strategies, and programmes based on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). GWP offers IWRM technical capacity development activities for officials and technical experts working in the field of water and environmental resources management. Examples include professionals working with river basin organisations, catchment agencies, national, and provincial/state governments.

UN General Assembly Water Dialogue

GWP Chair Dr Oyun Sanjaasuren will be one of the panellists in a UN General Assembly Water Dialogue on World Water Day, 22 March 2017. Experts are invited to discuss how to improve the integration and coordination of UN's work on the water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets.

World Water Day

In 1993, the UN General Assembly officially designated March 22 as World Water Day. World Water Day is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and partners.
