The 6^th General meeting of the African Network of Basin Organisations took place from 20 – 22 September 2016 at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda. The meeting took stock of the state of implementation of the resolutions and on the achievements of African network since the holding of the 2015 general meeting.

GWP took an active role in the Habitat III Conference, taking place in Quito, Ecuador, on 17-20 October 2016. Habitat III is the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. It focused on the implementation of a New Urban Agenda, building on the Habitat Agenda of Istanbul in 1996. This was the first United Nations global summit after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

GWP-Med, along with Bewater Project partner, INRGREF, organised a national training in Zaghouan, Tunisia, for 30 Tunisian Youth NGO members active in water resources management issues, on November, 13th-14th, in order to raise their capacity to address the challenge of sustainable water resources management under climate change constraints.

Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) was established in 2002 as the Mediterranean Regional Water Partnership of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) Network.

The ministers in charge of water of Benin, Burkina and Niger have signed on 22 December 2015 in Cotonou, Benin the framework agreement of cooperation for the promotion of political dialogue and sustainable development of the Mékrou basin, an affluent of the Niger River shared by the three countries.

The general objective of this Cooperation Framework Agreement is to promote political dialogue and sustainable development  of the three states in order to facilitate good governance  in the planning and the integrated and sustainable management of the natural resources of the Mekrou Transboundary sub-basin, taking into account socio-economic needs, food security, poverty reduction through the preservation, the conservation of ecosystems and the improvement of the living conditions of local communities.

On December 21, 2016, the Water and Energy Sustainable Development Forum was held in Beijing. One of GWP China’s close partners, China Water & Power Press, organized the event. GWP China has helped it for designing, organizing and implementing the event, thus, was invited to be joint organizer.

The CWP Burkina organized a guided tour on Friday, March 4, 2016 on the pilot project on drip irrigation using solar energy on the site of Ramintenga in the municipality of Loumbila.  Representatives of the town hall of Loumbila, the Regional Chamber of Agriculture (CRA) of the Central Plateau, the Regional Directorate in charge of Agriculture, hydraulics, sanitation and Food security (DRAHASA), the Malgb-Zanga Association, the local Water committee of Northern Massili, members of the SIDWAYA group, and CWP-Burkina took part in the tour.

 

The First High Level Ministerial Panel on Responding to Climate and Environmental Challenges in South East Europe (SEE) took place on 1^st April 2016, in Podgorica, in the framework of the South East Europe Strategy 2020 and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).

The Burkina WACDEP team had field trips in February (13th 2015) and March (13, 25 and 29) to first inform and discuss with interested parties on the progress of the demonstration project and find consensual solutions for the conduct of the project. Due to new budget limitation developments the intervention was reframed based on available financial resources.

The AMCOW Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania) will be holding the 6th Africa Water Week (AWW) and 10th General Assembly at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 18^th-22 July, 2016 under the theme ‘Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation’.   The Tanzania Water Partnership has been co-opted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.
