The aim of the exercise is to test the checklist in a stakeholder consultation setting and to collect feedback from national stakeholders’ key aspects of Gender mainstreaming in IWRM.
The Lake Chad Basin Commission and GWP-Central Africa, with the support of the World Metrological Organization, organized the second regional stakeholder consultation for the "Integrated Water Resources Management and Early Warning System for Climate Change Resilience in the Lake Chad Basin" project. The regional workshop was held in N’Djamena, Chad, on March 29th–31st, 2023.
Opened in Niamey on 02 March 2023, the national workshop was jointly organised by the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Niger and the Secretariat of the Convention (UNECE). It provided an opportunity to inform stakeholders about the Water Convention, to share information on the processes initiated by the Government of Niger to become a party to the Water Convention and to discuss the next steps in the accession process.
As part of the implementation of the pilot initiatives of the Water Development and Management Plan (SAGE) of the Niger portion of Mékrou, the Mekrou phase 2 Niger project financed by the European Union has rehabilitated the Belandè multi-village mini drinking water supply system with an extension of the standpipes.
Africa 21 is an African Forum covering three strands of major importance for the continent. Linked and complementary, they deal with Water Security, Energy Sovereignty and Food Independence in the era of climate change, desertification and issues related to growth in the era of the 21st century. For this first edition, the focus is on technological innovations in each of these sectors!
The Nigerien delegation was received on December 22, 2022 by the Minister of Environment, Water and Sanitation, Dr. Augustin KABORE. The Secretary General of the Ministry, Dr. KOUANDA had received the delegation on December 19. Discussions focused on IWRM and the management of the climate change issue, among others.
Niger is a Sahelian country, which faces several major challenges. These mutually reinforce each other to aggravate the already precarious socio-economic situation of the country. Thus, we note the persistence of the effects of climate change, the challenges related to the problems of regional insecurity in the Sahel, leading in particular to massive displacements of populations and disturbances in the implementation of sectoral policies.
Burkina Faso shares three river basins with other countries in the sub-region. These are the Niger River Basin, whose Basin Authority includes 9 States, the Volta River Basin, whose Basin Authority includes 6 States, and the Comoé River Basin, shared by 4 States.
