Based on the global theme "Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality" we ask some women how can the water sector step it up for gender equality.

The Global Water Partnership Mediterranean is seeking to hire an Individual Consultant in the framework of the project Water, Climate and Development Programme «WACDEP» in synergy with ‘Making Water Cooperation Happen in the Mediterranean’ Project, in relation to the “Gender Mainstreaming Strategy“ in the NWSAS basin and “Training on gender mainstreaming in development planning”.

This article is part of a wider coverage of the “MENA Focus” events, a set of four regional sessions dedicated to the Middle East & North Africa, officially launched at the Stockholm World Water Week 2016, alongside the Regional Days for Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) had been selected and serves as the overall coordinator for these “MENA Focus” events. The sessions were organized in partnership with a number of international regional institutions and organisations. “Seeking answers to the MENA water crisis” was the first out of the four sessions, held on the 30^th of August.

Any experience on water management is worth to be shared, says Shamila Nair-Bedouelle, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences of UNESCO: “Water managers need to understand the different journeys that have been taken, so that we collectively can promote sustainable water management.”

The establishment of the LWP was followed by a series of dysfunctions in some of them, resulting in difficulties for internal animation. After the June training in Niamey on the L-Moments model and hydrological modelling, the national experts of scientific and research institutions from the three Mekrou countries (Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger) gathered in Ouagadougou from 20 to 23 September 2017 for a training on the mathematical model Erosion Productivity Impact Calculator (EPIC) and the multiobjective optimization (MOO).

The executing partners of the project (WMO, VBA and GWP-WA) are planning to select technicians from each country in the Volta Basin, who will take part in the capacity building process, data collection and production of flood and drought risk maps for the Volta basin led by the partner CIMA.
