GWP Eastern Africa (GWPEA) is one of 13 regional networks that make up GWP, an international network that was created in 1996 to foster implementation of integrated water resources management: the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources that maximises economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of ecosystems and the environment.

Food security is considered one of the greatest challenges currently facing humanity. Water is a crucial natural resource in food production, and for this reason food and water experts met in Costa Rica. The aim was to establish a dialogue between the two sectors.

GWP and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO) entered a cooperation to capture experiences on IWRM.

This handbook seeks to provide knowledge on the WSSD action target. Strategies should catalyze action, not retard it.

A regional workshop to review and finalize the project document on the "Dialogue on the Concerted Management of Groundwater in West Africa" ​​was held from 10 to 12 July 2013 in Koudougou, Burkina Faso.
