Following the workshop to re-launch the PANGIRE Steering Committee held on August 17 and 18 in Cotonou, the Benin Water Directorate, with the technical and financial support of Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) and the Benin Country Water Partnership (CWP-Benin) through the Water, Climate, Development and Gender Equality Program (WACDEP-G), launched the work of the workshop of extended consultation of national actors for the assessment of the 2nd phase of the National Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management (PANGIRE) of Benin and Proposals of actions for the 3rd phase.

The States and regional organisations of West Africa and the Sahel region met virtually on 5 December 2024 to discuss the sustainable management of water resources in West Africa, with a particular focus on the regional initiative for the development, resilience and valorisation of water for West Africa (DREVE) and its various pillars. Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities related to climate risk management, project financing, capacity building and the preservation of the Fouta Djallon Mountains.

The programme Matchmaker 2 aims to provide Jordan and Palestine with tangible and scalable solutions in order to improve water management and build resilience to climate change through the application of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus approach.

One of the main stepping stones toward the United Nations 2023 Water Conference – the first UN conference dedicated to water in over 45 years – is the 2nd High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 6-9 June 2022.

The regional chair of GWP-Central Africa, Mr. Sylvain Guebanda is in Yaoundé, Cameroon for a one-week working visit at the GWP-Central Africa regional secretariat.

The Regional Council of GWP SAS nominated the Executive Director/CEO of GWP Pakistan/Pakistan Water Partnership (PWP), Mr Sardar Muhammad Tariq as the new Regional Chair (Interim), starting from 15 January 2024 through the end of the year.
