On 26 April 2018, a successful meeting was held in Nouakchott in Mauritania between GWP-Med, the National Center for Water Resources in Mauritania (CNRE) and the Regional Centre of Agro-Hydro-Meteorology (AGRHYMET) leading to collaboration agreement on concrete steps to support CNRE on water resources monitoring and evaluation as well as hydro-climate services delivery.

Monika Weber-Fahr took up her new position as Executive Secretary of Global Water Partnership on 7 May. “As the newest kid on the block I’m feeling very humbled. I’m inspired by what the network is and what it has done in the past 20+ years, and what it can do going forward in a world where water is such a huge priority”, she says.

GWP recognizes the importance of engaging youth in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable economic development as the demand for natural resources, and particularly water increases. It strives to engage with young people, youth organizations, and young water professionals, and to empower them to become agents of change

29 hours of the GWP Network Meeting 2019 attracted an audience of 10,000 and 2500 views of the Facebook site, as well as nearly 400 readers of the thematic report on GWP WeChat. Big L♥ve to all for arriving the great success of this event.

The annual GWP Network Meeting will be held on 11 October at 13.00 Central European Time (CET). It is a virtual meeting, to be broadcast on the GWP website www.gwp.org – with a special guest message from UN Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jan Eliasson. The Silk Road began in ancient China and connected with Asia, Africa and Europe. It has developed from a land-based commercial route to a communication link between East and West in economic, political and cultural aspects. The “Belt and Road” aims to borrow the historical symbols of the ancient Silk Road. Contemporary Silk Road pays attention to sharing and win-win and realises the diversified, independent, balanced and sustainable development of countries along the route through the interconnection of Asian, American and European continents and nearby oceans.

A corner of the GWP Southern Africa office in Pretoria, South Africa, houses the headquarters of WHC – short for Water Hygiene Convenience. We spoke to Paseka Lesolang, Founder and Managing Director of WHC, who describes the partnership as an ideal way to join forces – with a shared vision and common goals.

Aiming to make the youth’s voice heard in view of integrated water resources management, climate change adaptation and sustainable development, GWP-Med facilitates a youth dialogue entitled “Tunisia Youth mobilized for water and climate”. The dialogue started with a first workshop on 26th December 2017 and is continuing with a second workshop on the 25th May 2018, Tunis, Tunisia.

Within the GWP, the place of women is important. We believe that they are powerful catalysts for change even though they are often absent from decision-making processes about water management policies.
