Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado is Project Cooridinator for Water Pollution Prevention at Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper in Costa Rica. The non-profit organisation has been a GWP Partner since 2013 - their motivation to join the GWP network was a wish to participate in the processes around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). As part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded regional initiative, "Lake Chad Management Improvement Support" project, jointly implemented by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the LCBC in collaboration with GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a regional workshop in Douala, Cameroon from July 6th – 9th, 2021 to train national and regional trainers on the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach at the transboundary level within a climate change context.

Water Knowledge Europe is the specialized brokerage event of Water Europe (WE) that allows participants to network, exchange knowledge and experiences, and to collaborate with key actors from across the water value chain. A digital summer edition of the event takes place on 15 July.

The event hosted over 40 participants and a lively discussion on various floodplain-related topics.

An online Technical Workshop on Gender Equality (GE) and Sustainable Development in Nexus sectors in Albania took place on 29 June 2021 with the participation of more than 50 representatives from gender related institutions, gender focal points from gender-related institutions, civil society, youth organizations and women empowerment activists and experts from Albania.

"The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future" was the theme of the 2021 digital edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) on 15-16 June, a European Commission event. GWP was represented at a high-level panel on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and at a discussion on the role of water as a connector in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both discussions highlighted integration between sectors as key to improving water governance.

African water ministers’ call for the establishment of an International High-Level Panel on Water for Africa has reached the official preparatory process for the Mid-Term Review of the UN Water Action Decade in 2023.

A national workshop for the media actors on the popularization of policies and texts adopted on water, environment and climate in West Africa and Benin was held on 21 and 22 June 2021.
