The 5th Steering Committee meeting of the Regional Program for the integrated Development of the Fouta Djallon Highlands (RPID/FDH) was held in Dakar, Senegal from 22 to 25 June 2021. The workshop was organized by FAO in collaboration with ECOWAS and UN Environment.
GWP-WA regional coordinator had on 29 and 30 June 2021 in Niamey, a meeting to provide clarification on the methodological note for carrying out the study on the ''Finalization and operationalization of the Water Development and Management Scheme (SAGE) of the sub-basin of the Mekrou in Niger and definition of pilot initiatives for implementation''.
As part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded regional initiative, "Lake Chad Management Improvement Support" project, jointly implemented by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the LCBC in collaboration with GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a regional workshop in Douala, Cameroon from July 6th – 9th, 2021 to train national and regional trainers on the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach at the transboundary level within a climate change context.
From January to May 2021, the Mekrou Phase 2 Niger Project management team (PMT) has continued with the implementation of planned activities including contract signing with the consultant firms that were selected at the end of the bid for tender to carry out two main studies in the project implementation zones and start of the study processes.
The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) held in Abuja from 24 to 27 May 2021 its statutory meeting including the meeting of the: Technical Committee of Experts on May 24 to 26, 2021, the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 27, 2021.
GWP-WA signed on February 19, 2021 with the Regional Office of the IUCN Program for Central and West Africa (IUCN-PACO) an agreement to support the implementation in 2021 of the project titled "Regional Partnership on Water and Environment in Central and West Africa (PREE)", with the financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) organized from 13 to 15 April 2021 a regional workshop to set up a functional platform for the W transboundary biosphere reserve as part of its support to promote and implement an ecosystem-based approach and IWRM practices through better coordination of interventions related to the complex between the three riparian countries, Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger. The event was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
