Mr. Hongqi SHANG, on behalf of GWP China Region, was duly approved by the GWP Steering Committee as new independent Nomination Committee member on 5th December 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden. Let us congratulate this tireless water-worrier to be a member of the GWP Nomination Committee!!!

Scholars have warned that hydropower dams planned for eastern and southern Africa could put electricity supply at risk for vast regions because they rely on the same rainfall patterns for electricity generation.

GWP’s Financing Partners Group (FPG) and Steering Committee (SC) met in December to consider a range of issues facing the GWP network. One of the highlights was a joint session with both entities which addressed the issue of water diplomacy.

From November 22 to 25, 2015, the GWP’s Regional Days Meeting was held in Stockholm, Sweden.

Following the SADC Water Week Conference held at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe, Malawi from the 13-15 May, 2015, the Malawi National Youth Water Network (MNYWN) was formed on the 14^th of May, 2015. The setting up of the Network was in line with the SADC program for the African Minister’s Council on Water (AMCOW) Policy and Strategy on Mainstreaming Youth in the Water and Sanitation Sector through the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Water Aid and Malawi Water Partnership.

The International Secretariat for Water, the Global Water Partnership West Africa, the Country Water Partnerships of Burkina Faso and Benin, and the NGO Eau Vive Togo are proud to announce the launch of the project #tonfuturtonclimat.

Global Water Partnership (GWP) Africa teamed-up with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), under the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan Global Support Programme (NAP-GSP) to lead the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Regional Training Workshop for Asia on “Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation into Water Resources”.

Bratislava/Sarajevo, 21 September 2015. Iman Maljić from Bosnia and Herzegovina has won the “International Danube Art Master 2015” competition. The winning art work “Black Swan” was chosen from over 600 submissions.

A mission was set up in September to develop the Strategic Plan to ensure the strategic guidance of Benin CWP activities during the period 2017-2021. The specific objectives relating to this mission are to provide Benin CWP with a Strategic Plan; give the WIN coalition a guidance document for the promotion of integrity in the water sector and sanitation in Benin. On 18 and 19 October 2016, a workshop was held in Ouidah, bringing together the internal and external stakeholders of the CWP Benin for the validation of the strategic priorities, objectives and results, and action planning.

Bienvenue GBELO wins the 2015 GWP-CAf Media award on “water and climate change”.

 

Bienvenue GBELO, a journalist reporter for Radio Ndeke Luka in Bangui, Central African Republic wins the Global Water Partnership-Central Africa Media Award on “Water and Climate change” 2015. As winner of media competition launched by GWP-CAf on February 1^st 2015, he was awarded a certificate, a recorder and cash prize of 500 euros. 

Bienvenue’s submission was based on the theme “Drinking water still a rare commodity in Bangui.” The press article looked specifically at water shortage phenomena in the capital city and dryness of certain streams in the neighbourhood/surrounding villages.
