In celebration of International Youth Day 2020 on 12 August, GWP organised an online discussion with GWP Youth Engagement Specialist Rianna Gonzales, who interviewed GWP Southern Africa Youth Coordinator Paseka Lesolang about his achievements as an entrepreneur and influencer. Paseka said that one of the most important skills that has brought him to where he is today, is self-knowledge. This has allowed him to stretch himself to the next point. “Know thyself” was therefore one of his key messages.
The third edition of the National Water Week of Côte d'Ivoire (SNECI) took place from 18-20 July 2017 on the theme: "On the road to emergence, how does Côte d’Ivoire manage her water resources in with climate change? ".
In December 2020, GWP welcomed six new members on its Steering Committee, adding to seven members who have served longer. The Committee acts as a Board of Directors for the GWP Network and the GWP Organisation (GWPO). The members rotate every three or six years. Now, for the first time, a Permanent Youth Seat has been added. Jamilla Sealy from Barbados is the new representative on this seat. “Being the first youth, and also being a female of African descent and from the Caribbean, which are often under-represented in the global sphere, makes it a humbling experience”, she says about her appointment.
Six countries were represented at the 9th workshop on International Water Law for Latin America, held in Antigua, Guatemala, on 19-23 June. A GWP Technical Focus Paper on managing transboundary waters in Central America was also launched at the event.
GWP is coordinating consultations on "Valuing Water", an initiative of the United Nations High-Level Panel on Water (HLPW). On July 24, the third consultation was held in Mexico City with about 50 stakeholders.
In 2020, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) began supporting the Government of the Dominican Republic (DR) to develop estimates of increased risk of flooding and landslides due to rainfall projections under climate change scenarios. This technical study was completed in the last quarter of 2020. It is one of a series of activities and outputs by GWP-C to inform the preparation of the country’s submission for the second round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and is part of the Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP) from the NDC Partnership.
