The Tisza Office

The Tisza Office of the Middle Tisza Water Directorate (KÖTIVIZIG) was ceremonially inaugurated on 4 November 2014. Five countries are represented under its mandate: Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia. The Tisza Office team - consisting of Judit Palatinus, Melinda Váci and György Rátfai - present the scope of their work and collaboration with GWP.

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction takes place on 13 October. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress being made toward reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health. The 2021 edition will focus on “International cooperation for developing countries to reduce their disaster risk and disaster losses”.

Sparking an International Career in the Water Sector

“My journey in the water and development sector began through a simple internship for a small China-based NGO named Thirst”, says Alex Whitebrook, Fundraising Team Manager of Geneva-based NGO Water Inception and Focal Point Oceania for the World Youth Parliament for Water (WYPW). Whilst studying international relations in Shanghai, Alex took on a role with Thirst to teach high-school students about China’s water challenges. One thing led to another, and now, as part of the GWP-WYPW youth storytelling initiative, Alex looks back and shares the story of his first on-the-ground experience, which took place in a tiny village in Mexico.

The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) held in Abuja from 24 to 27 May 2021 its statutory meeting including the meeting of the: Technical Committee of Experts on May 24 to 26, 2021, the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 27, 2021.

Enhancing Multi-Stakeholder Processes for SDG 6 – New Publication

As the COVID-19 pandemic hit, many meetings, workshops, and consultations suddenly went online. In many parts of the world, in-person meetings were impossible for a long time, and only now are slowly resuming. In other parts, hybrid meetings with online presence and in-person participation are becoming the new norm. Each of these formats comes with its pros and cons. In-person meetings allow for broader and deeper discussions, while online meetings are logistically easier to manage and make it easier for more participants to join. A new publication analyzes the impact that different formats can have on the quality of the interaction in the context of multi-stakeholder consultations.

Technical Committee of Experts of NBA in Ndjamena, Chad

The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) organized the meeting of its Technical Experts Committee to analyze and examine the various concerns facing the NBA in its functioning, its relations with its partners, the Executive Secretariat and the Member States and made recommendations and orientations to enable the Ministers of the 9 Member States to take decisions for the good functioning of the Authority.
