In a bid to ensure that the Republic of Congo National Water and Sanitation Policy document takes into account all sectors related to water and directly addresses the challenges of the WASH sector in the country, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources with the support of GWP-CAf and UNICEF organized a two day stakeholder consultation workshop from 25th – 26th November 2020 in Brazzaville.
Two days online training on Integrated Drought Management was organized for the participants from four Drin basin countries (Albania, Kosovo*, Montenegro and North Macedonia) with the goal to enhance the capacity for integrated, proactive approach to drought planning, adaptation and management.
Michèle Okala coordinates the work of RECOJAC – the Network of Water and Climate Organisations of Central African Youth. She is one of the founding members and she is also in charge of youth issues for GWP Central Africa. Michèle has been volunteering for over 8 years, and she shares some insights to what she has learned – and what she hopes to leave as her legacy: “I created RECOJAC for the generation that will come after me. From Monday 13 to Saturday 17 May 2019, a delegation from the Water Integrity Network (WIN) visited Benin as part of an exchange mission with the CWP and its partners involved in the fight for integrity in the water and sanitation sector.
A 3-part webinar series is held in February and March to strengthen climate and water linkages in national climate action plans such as the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and various investment mechanisms. The series is jointly organised by Cap-Net, UNDP, AGWA, SIWI, Water Governance Facility and GWP. It is the second webinar series organised on the theme water and climate - the first round of webinars were held in July 2020.
The impacts of climate change manifest through alterations in the water cycle, exposing ecosystems and the livelihoods of people to increased variability in water availability and increased exposure to water-related hazards. These impacts are expected to intensify over time, posing a significant threat. The impacts of climate change in the water sector also hinder economic and social development, emphasizing the need for countries to integrate water security and climate resilience strategies into their development plans.
