On GWP Chair Bamsey: Ties of Nature in Water and Climate

Howard Bamsey, the new chair of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), was the UN ambassador to Geneva, special envoy for climate change, and top leader of the Green Climate Foundation (GCF). Being invited to "the Master Lecture" organised by the IWHR, he brought a unique standpoint in the relationship between ‘climate change’ and ‘policies’. “A fall into the pit again in your wit” embedded in his insight and analysis on the lessons and learned, revealing political difficulties and challenges.

HELP-GWP consultation on Draft Principles on Investment and Financing for Water-related Disaster Risk Reduction

Upon the request of the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) and with finding from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan and the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) Japan, Global Water Partnership (GWP) organised a consultation on the proposed HELP Principles of Investments and Financing for water-related disaster risk reduction in the Southern African region.

GWP launches new publication "Addressing Water in National Adaptation Plans"

On Monday 8 April 2019, at the Korea Global Adaptation Week, GWP launched the publication "Addressing Water in National Adaptation Plans – Water Supplement to the UNFCCC NAP Technical Guidelines". The launch event was co-hosted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and GWP.

“We have a powerful story” – Hundreds of GWP Partners Engaged in Network Meeting

GWP’s “Follow-the-Sun” Network Meeting concluded, after 29 hours, on Friday 28 September. The meeting, which was held in 15 consecutive multi-point video conference sessions over two days, engaged over 400 Partners across the world, in nearly 50 countries. The main aim was to seek insight for GWP’s Strategy development, in addition to statutory tasks. “We have a powerful story”, said GWP Executive Secretary Monika Weber-Fahr in her concluding remarks.

COST Action Circular City

Our world is approaching a situation where several resources are becoming scarce at the same time, e.g., energy, nutrients, water, space, while at the same time climate change is proceeding. This will cause problems even in areas where such problems may at present seem negligible. Wealth and wellbeing of coming generations will depend on our ability to adapt our economies to this challenge in the finite world we are living in. Transforming today’s cities into sustainable cities is one of the main adaptations that will be necessary. A holistic approach looking at cities from a system’s perspective is needed to achieve this goal.

IWRM at the heart of staff training and representatives of LCBC member states

With the technical support of the GWP-CAf, Experts, Directors and representatives of LCBC member states received training on IWRM for better implementation of the Lake Chad Basin Water Charter. The participants made recommendations to advance transboundary cooperation in the Lake Chad Basin.
