The implementation process of national and regional platforms on the Integrated Management of Drought is ongoing. Thus the regional core group as well as the national core group of Niger held their first meeting of 2016 respectively on Wednesday, June 15 in Ouagadougou and Wednesday 22 June in Niamey.

Mr. Hongqi SHANG, on behalf of GWP China Region, was duly approved by the GWP Steering Committee as new independent Nomination Committee member on 5th December 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden. Let us congratulate this tireless water-worrier to be a member of the GWP Nomination Committee!!!

"Advancing Non-Conventional Water Resources Management in Mediterranean islands and coastal areas: local solutions, employment opportunities and people engagement," is a regional conference organized in Malta on May 10-11 to celebrate the 10years of the NCWR Programme in the Mediterranean.

GWPSA joined other key stakeholders working around climate change adaptation at a regional workshop on Climate Change National Adaptation Plans for African Anglophone countries. The workshop, which was held in Lilongwe, Malawi from 27 February-3 March 2017, was organised by the UNFCCC LEG and was attended by about 50 participants from 25 Anglophone African countries. The regional training was officially opened by the Chief Director for Environment and Climate Change Management, Dr. Yanira Ntupanyama, Malawi. Remarks were also given from UNFCCC (Dr. Paul Desanker, Manager of NAPs and Policies, and LDCs Expert Group (LEG) Chairman, Mr. Abias Huongo-Angola.

The UN theme of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD 2018) relates to gender equality and activism, building on global movements such as #metoo and #TimeIsNow. For the water community we translated this to “Time is now for equality in water access and management!” and followed it up by asking women in the GWP network “How can activism empower women in the water sector?” These issues were also raised in a Facebook Live session on 8 March together with GWP Partner Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).

The Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), being implemented by Global Water Partnership Central Africa (GWP- CAf), has surpassed expectations and supported the production and delivery of National Adaptation Plan (NAP) in Cameroon.
