Sustainable Water Integrated Management – Support Mechanism (SWIM-SM), the largest water-related regional project supported by the European Commission (EC) during 2010-2015, successfully concluded its phase I, and held its Final Steering Committee (SC) Meeting in Luxembourg, on the 25^th of November. With a budget of 7.7 million Euros, the project was implemented in nine south Mediterranean countries[1] by a consortium led by LDK and with GWP-Med as the project technical director.

A regional water youth network was created by participants to the recent Youth for Water Conference organised by GWP Central America, Movimiento de Jóvenes por el Agua (Youth Movement for Water, MOJA) and La Ruta del Clima (The Climate Route) and supported by GWP South America, UNICEF-Nicaragua, Reforestamos Mexico, and IUCN. 

The integrated approach is called Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and is defined as a process which promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land and related resources in order to maximise economic and social welfare in an equitable manner without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.

The CWP Mali made a guided visit to Gouendo on 16 and 17 November. The visit made it possible to interact with the beneficiaries to obtain their feedback on the pilot project, to know the peasants' perception of the project and to suggest areas for improvement.

This year celebrating the World Water Day in CACENA region has started before its date. Many events were held by GWP CACENA partners to raise awareness on water related problems.

In December this year, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) will take place in Paris. Governments are supposed to come to a universal agreement regarding climate which will determine the future of our planet.

Dr. Kuiri Tjipangandjara, GWPSA’s Chairperson will be discussing “The State of Namibia’s Water Security: Assessment and Proposed Interventions”. The lectures will be held on 2 ^& 16 June, 2016 and attempt to quantitatively assess the state of water security in three regions in Namibia, namely the Central Area, North Central Area and Central Coastal Area. The results show that Namibia’s water security for the three areas varies from low to very low – ranking between 50-61%. Guided by the results from the respective Areas, the intervention options were identified, compared and contrasted.

There is an opportunity for a Zambia water industry that will help boost the country’s economy, Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa (GWP-SA) Executive Secretary, Alex Simalabwi has said.

On September 26, 2014, the Workshop on Water Ecological Restoration and Progress was organized by GWP China Hunan and GWP China with the support of the Hunan Provincial Water Resources Department and the GWPO, in Changsha City, Hunan Province.

GWP China co-hosted three thematic sessions under the Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) on IWRM, Water and Food Security as well as Water and Cities at the 7th World Water Forum that was opened on April 12, 2015 in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Republic of Korea. The GWP China Delegation of 9 members participated in the opening ceremony, sessions and events during the 6-day conference.
