The 9th World Urban Forum (WUF9), convened by the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), brings together stakeholders to share practices and knowledge on how cities are built, planned and managed. The Forum is held 7-13 February in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

All participants attending the GCF Project Preparation Workshop must register using the online registration form. Each form is to be completed individually by only one participant. The African Development Bank (AfDB) is supporting financially the establishment of the ECOWAS Regional Water Observatory and the technical support will come from the UNEP-DHI Water and Environment partnering with GWP/WA as a consortium.

Inadequate country capacity to prepare GCF water projects

Towards an equal, friendly and secured international community, China has developed the blueprint of “One Belt One Road” for multiple bonds with more than 60 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa to work for a community of shared benefits, destiny and responsibility. Tsinghua University founded the Institute of Global Development in 2016 for promoting the One Belt One Road at national, regional and global level.

Chairs, Regional Coordinators, Programme Managers of Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), Senior Network Officers for Pan Asia met in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 12 and 13 September 2017 to develop the Pan Asia WACDEP Strategy document 2017-2019.

Lake Cyohoha and its 508 km² watershed in the Bugesera region marks the border between Southern Rwanda and Northern Burundi. In the GWP WACDEP climate resilience project, stakeholders analyzed the situation and decided for actions. Drought resistant trees were planted, water points installed and connected to a supply network, fuel saving stoves and biogas was introduced and capacity development events were held. 

Several partners among which the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate of Zimbabwe and the Municipality of Marondera have come together to help Zimbabwe develop an Integrated Water and Wastewater Master Plan that will, in part, present detailed prioritized investments for the municipality of Marondera, financed by the African Water Facility. This project will also build the capacity of the key sector players, which will in the long term foster an integrated approach in managing the water and sanitation facilities in the country.

The Summer School „Towards 2030 Agenda: A summer school for climate change, innovation and youth advocacy in water management“ will take place on 1- 6 July 2018 at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Warsaw, Poland.
