Yellow River Lecture Advancing Sci-Tech

GWP China Yellow River hosted the Yellow River Lecture in collaboration with the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research (YRIHR) during the 2025 National Science Week.

On May 27, 2025, coinciding with the 2025 National Science Week and Technician's Day, GWP China Yellow River, under the guidance of the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC), and with the support of member organizations, successfully hosted the Yellow River Lecture in collaboration with the Yellow River Institute of Hydraulic Research (YRIHR). The event was organized by Tianjin University and the Upper and Middle Reach Administration Bureau of the YRCC.

In attendance were Mr. Wei Xiangyang, Chief Engineer of the YRCC, and Ms. Wang Min, Vice President of the YRIHR. The lecture was hosted by Mr. Sun Yangbo, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, and Ms. Wang Zhongmei, Vice Chief Engineer of the YRIHR.

Mr. Wei Xiangyang delivered a keynote address focusing on flood prevention and control, its mechanisms, and its crucial role in safeguarding the Yellow River. Dr. Ren Bingyu, a professor from Tianjin University, presented on the application of advanced information technology in dam construction. Meanwhile, Mr. Yu Quangang, Chief Engineer of the Upper and Middle Reach Administration Bureau of the YRCC, elaborated on the concept, evaluation, transformation, and case studies of the gross ecological product and carbon sequestration. Additionally, Dr. Wang Qiang from YRIHR introduced the impact of water and sediment regulation at the Xiaolangdi Reservoir on the movement of water and sediment in the Yellow River.

Ms. Wang Min concluded by emphasizing that the Yellow River Lecture exemplified President Xi Jinping's vision, where technological innovation and science popularization drive innovation and development. Modern researchers of the Yellow River, with technological innovation as their mission, implement national strategies to benefit the people and continuously promote Yellow River scientific knowledge and the transformation of scientific outputs, thereby upholding the scientific spirit and enhancing the public's water science and cultural literacy.

The Yellow River Lecture featured 64 meetings, both online and offline, attracting over 1500 people. Through this lecture, participants broadened their horizons, deepened their understanding of the advanced applications of technological innovation on the Yellow River, and strengthened their capacity building, aiding them in better implementing the major national strategy of Ecological Conservation and High-Quality Development of the Yellow River Basin.

Centered around the theme "Persisting in Innovation Development to Build a Scientific Powerhouse," this activity was one of a series of important events held by GWP China Yellow River during the 2025 National Science Week and Technician's Day. Since its inception in 2023, it has garnered immense admiration and high praise.
