GWP China Contributes United Nations World Water Development Report 2023

The United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR) is UN-Water's flagship report on water and sanitation issues.

Launched on March 22, 2023, the 2023 edition, Partnerships and Cooperation for Water, gives policy recommendations to decision makers by offering best practices and in-depth analyses. The report is published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on behalf of UN-Water.

GWP China shared a story in the 2023 edition of the United Nations World Water Development Report (WWDR 2023) on page 130:

"Cross-sectoral cooperation can also be effective in watershed governance. In China, the River Chief System (RCS) is a horizontal cooperation mechanism between different ministries from the municipal offices, the Environment Protection Agency, the Finance Bureau and the Water Conservancy Bureau, among others. The RCS has been implemented in 31 provinces since 2018, where visible improvements in surface water quality and the overall ecological condition of watersheds have been reported (Wang, et al., 2021)."

GWP China regional coordinator, Prof. Yunzhong JIANG, is leading the Chinese Executive Summary of the WWDR 2023. And GWP China will work on the translation of the full report later this year.
