GWP Central Africa on a working visit to Gabon

GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) carried out a working visit to the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) from 29 August to 01 September 2017 in Libreville, Gabon. The main objective of this visit was to strengthen collaboration between the two structures, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding in April 2017.

The GWP-CAf delegation, led by its President, Ms. Ligia Cristina SOARES DE BARROS, after having been welcomed by Mrs. Marie Thérèse Chantal MFOULA, Deputy Secretary General  in charge Integration, Economy and Monetary issue, met successively with the technical services of ECCAS (Water and Energy Services, Agriculture and Rural Development Department and the Service in charge of Disaster Risk Management / Climate Change Adaptation), the General Direction of Water of Gabon and the key partners (European Union and UNICEF).

During the working visit, which helped to focus on the main domains of collaboration between the two structures, GWP-CAf and ECCAS agreed on a roadmap for the period 2017 - 2018.  The main activities to be implemented under the Memorandum of Understanding were examined and approved.

The mission ended with a review and approval session of the report of the working visit. The two structures made recommendations, which included their joint support to the Republic of Gabon in the organization of the 7th African Water Week, scheduled for June 2018 in Libreville, Gabon, and the facilitation of the creation of a coordination platform of ECCAS technical and financial partners for the implementation of the Regional Water Policy.

As a reminder, the Memorandum of Understanding signed in April 2017 by ECCAS and GWP Central Africa provides that the two parties will cooperate in the implementation of the Regional Water Policy, the Regional Action Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management in Central Africa (PARGIRE-AC) and the GWP Central Africa Regional strategy and action plan.
